I bought this book based on the reccomendation that this book is similar to the Harry Potter series. I believe that this is a terrible comparison. That being said I did enjoy the book, but this is unfortunately nothing close to the Potter series.

I am very late to the party when it comes to this “Twilight” series. The only reason I saw “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” was because of free movie tickets and a krumper. I am the absolute last person to read vampire books, watch vampire movies or even be interested in vampire culture period. But Lil’ C (from “Rize”) was debating about the film so much on Twitter that it made me curious. When the movie started, I was in complete awe. That film was one of the best films I’ve ever seen! I just about raced out of the theater to get my hands on a copy of the other movies and the books. I will absolutely be watching and reviewing them all because this author knows what she’s doing. I loved this book! Here’s why.

For those who complain about the book being unrealistic, seriously, folks, the book is about vampires. How realistic did you expect it to be? It’s fantasy from the beginning, but Meyer did a helluva job making it as believable as possible considering the circumstances. The clumsy girl in school, the girl who doesn’t know she’s pretty, the girl who is completely over high school and prom, and the new girl in school are all Bella and all girls I knew growing up. Edward, on the other hand, outside of being a vampire just reminds me of the mysterious, good-looking guy in high school. I can name a few of those I met in high school and college, too. He has his own clique and prefers to stay out of the limelight until he encounters Bella, who tickles his fancy because she doesn’t act like other human girls he knows.

Now while I was a little skeptical of how much Bella was taking the news of him being a vampire in stride, I can also think of a group of girls I went to high school with who would love nothing more than that whole cultural scene. I could understand her naive excitement about it and not fully grasping just how Edward could be. There was an attack scene where she finally realized just how dangerous he could be to her. What I liked about the author was instead o

That’s what I was thinking the whole time reading this. Just so you know, I’m 12, but I read this when I was 11. I read it to see what all the hype was about, as someone in my dance class is in love with it. The first thing I was wondering when I opened it was, “So do the vampires ACTUALLY sparkle?” And soon I found out. Yes, yes they do.

Let’s start off with the main character: Bella Swan. I didn’t really like her name, but I’m not going to complain about that, as that’s the least of our problems. I’m not sure what kind of character Meyer was going for, but she was just dumb, to put it in the nicest of words. She wasn’t interesting at all, and she seemed like one of those minor characters you would see in any other book, just there for a little filler. But the problem was, SHE WAS THE MAIN CHARACTER. This already made the book much more boring and stupid than it had to be.

Next up we have… Edward. Edward Cullen. Oooh, do I have a lot (yes, that’s the correct spelling, “a lot” NOT “alot”) to say about him. But I gotta cut it short, seeing as I only have 10 minutes. He had no personality at all, and I think I just summed it up right there. No personality. For your next-to-main character. All I have to say is smoooooooth, Meyer, smoooooooth.

I never understood the town’s name either, I mean, I know that towns have pretty weird names, but “Forks”? How about in my book I call the main town “Sporks” and the next one down “Knives”. Oh, and I love the name of the high school. For those of you lucky enough to have not read this, the high school is Forks High School. I know a lot are like that, my mom’s schools were Amesbury Elementary, Middle, and High, but come on. Meyer could have been a little more creative. I mean, she might as well have named it Meyer High School. Anyway, back to the story! Um… wait, that’s right, THERE IS NO STORY. There’s no plot that I could find, and the end… Well, I couldn’t even tell what was going on at the end.

I bought this book because i wanted to see what all the hype was about and if the book was worth it. I was engrossed in the book the day i began reading it. It’s just not a romance book it’s full of adventure as in when James begins his sadistic tracking of her.

I am not an avid reader, nor did I have any interest in the idea of vampires and the hype around the Twilight movies. I happened to catch the movie and thought it wasn’t horrible, thought I may take the time to read the first book. The movies do not do these books justice. I only ordered the first book because I really didn’t intend to get swallowed into the story as much as I did. I was done within days, and upset I had to wait for the second! This is for the person who can handle a classic romance story. Highly recommend for this type of reader. It is not over the top cheesy, but there is plenty of action to keep you involved. It is actually tough to watch the movies now because of how much they leave out.
